Documenting Chandrika Tandon’s Inspiring Visit to SACSS in Queens

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to document a heartwarming and inspiring event at SACSS (South Asian Council for Social Services) in Queens. Renowned artist and philanthropist Chandrika Tandon visited SACSS anddled a beautiful music lesson for the elders of the community, and it was a privilege to capture the magic of the day.

Chandrika’s teaching was more than just instruction—it was an experience of connection and joy. Her engaging approach brought everyone together in harmony, as the seniors worked as a team to create music that resonated with their hearts. Chandrika didn’t just teach the notes; she explained the meaning behind the words, making the session deeply enriching. The room was alive with energy as the seniors sang loudly, their spirits uplifted by the music and the camaraderie.

Chandrika Tandon’s visit to SACSS highlighted the profound effects music has on the body and soul. Singing improves breathing, increases endorphins, and fosters a sense of community—something SACSS champions tirelessly. SACSS plays a vital role in serving the South Asian community and beyond, providing resources, support, and a sense of belonging to immigrants and seniors who need it most.

The day was a testament to the incredible efforts of Sudha Acharya, whose leadership ensures SACSS remains independent, innovative, and impactful. Her dedication to evolving with the times has made SACSS a beacon of hope and service.

A special shoutout to Jia Rizvi for her fantastic video production work, which beautifully preserved the essence of this event, and to Anjali Maniam for organizing and bringing us on board. Events like this remind us all to contribute our talents and time to enrich the lives of elders in our society. Let’s honor their wisdom and ensure they continue to feel valued and loved.
